In the year, 2000, the then-current and former medical directors at the Fairview Southdale Hospital Emergency Department formed Suburban Emergency Associates,P.A. to undertake the provision of bringing residency-trained, board-certified emergency physicians to St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.  Using the trademark, “When Quality Makes A Difference,” and following our simple mission statement of, “Do what is right for the patient,” to guide our decision Suburban Emergency Associates, P.A. has grown into Twin Cities premier emergency physician group.  SEA is now comprised of 15 full-time specialists in Emergency Medicine. Each of one our doctors has devoted their entire career to the care of the acutely ill and injured.

When you or someone you love is ill or injured, you put your trust in the hands of a stranger, and pray they will be experienced and competent. We feel the same way we take pride in offering efficient, compassionate care for your emergency medical needs.  Our wait times are some of the shortest in the country, and we work with an outstanding nursing staff to evaluate and treat your condition as quickly as possible.  We have been a leader in Minnesota in our mission to provide prompt, thorough care since 2000.  Our goal is to manage your symptoms, and make sure that you get the tests and treatments that you need to begin getting well.

The skills and medical judgment of our physicians, supported by the Suburban Emergency Associates’ staffing/management model has consistently delivered the shortest wait times in the Twin Cities. Unlike any other emergency medical practice in the Twin Cities, we are the only group that has made a commitment to have each and every emergency department patient evaluated and treated exclusively by physicians. Our conviction is that when patients present to an emergency department, unlike an urgent care or clinic where the problem is usually focused and limited, they present with undifferentiated and potentially life threatening conditions that are best assessed by a board-certified residency-trained emergency physician in the entirety of their visit (not physician extenders as is commonly the case in all other emergency departments in the Twin Cites).  Doesn’t your emergency deserve a doctor? We are certain that most patients and their families prefer an emergency department evaluation by a physician over a physician extender that is often times may only be briefly overseen by a physician. This is not to say that physician extenders are not skilled providers. We do feel they have a strong role in our healthcare system best utilized for urgent care conditions that are well defined and limited in nature as is the case in our urgent care services. Deferring the financial gains that other groups enjoy by using physician extenders in the emergency department, we maintain this commitment to exclusively physician evaluations for emergency conditions because we believe it is right for our patients.

Every one of our doctors is residency-trained and board certified in Emergency Medicine, and we have gone beyond those credentials to select physicians who are recognized as among the very best clinicians.   Each has seen thousands of patients - of all ages for every condition. Our physicians have trained at some of the most prestigious residency programs in the country. And, some have extraordinary subspecialized skills (Dr. Irvin is double boarded in Neurology and Emergency Medicine, and Dr. Madore is fellowship trained in Emergency Ultrasound – a unique level of expertise We know that quality training and experience makes a difference when you suffer an illness or injury, and we believe that each patient deserves outstanding emergency care.
